Never wear too much.
No one wants to look like their channeling Mr. T. Less is usually more, but even if you’re dressing “light” you still may be wearing at least five items. It adds up quickly–watch, bracelet, ring, earrings, necklace. Shoot for 5 – 8 items. Remember, you might have three bracelets on one wrist! (Don’t count your wedding rings!)
Never wear too little.
Less is more, but that same necklace or earrings everyday and nothing else is definitely less! If you’re home most of the day with babes, you get a pass, but I want to see acccessories when you escape the house! 🙂
Never spend too much.
You should be aware of CPW or “Cost Per Wear”. Unless it’s for a super special event (like your own wedding), you are best off purchasing accessories that you can wear multiple ways and with multiple outfits. With scarves, purses, jewelry and other accessories, I would definitely advocate you think about the CPW. This way you’ll utilize your wardrobe to it’s complete potential! You don’t buy a purse that only goes with two of your outfits, right?
Never NOT update your accessory wardrobe.
I don’t mean you keep up with every trend, but take a look at your jewelry, belts and scarves. Do they seem outdated, do you not feel good in them anymore or do you simply feel bored with your stuff? As our clothing styles change over the years, we also have to update our accessories to go along with our outfits. Think about trading with a friend, purchasing a couple great “CPW” items or even getting it free when you host a little get-together with your friends! Message me for info.
Never NOT polish/clean it.
Fine jewelry is not the only kind of jewelry you should be worried about keeping nice. If you wipe down your jewelry with a polishing cloth (Wal-Mart has them!) after every wear, it will extend the life of your jewlery. Everyone is different when it comes to how much we sweat and the makeup of our skin (or the makeup ON our skin!) Metals that constantly touch your skin should definitely be wiped down more regularly. I’m also not talking about just jewelry here. Regularly wiping down your purse, shoes, belts and washing your scarves, keeps germs to a minimum and extends the life of these items as well.
