If you’re wearing something new or trying something new, the number one thing you want to do is try to be confident even if you’re not quite there yet. You may not believe it, (I always didn’t) but being positive about new experiences will always help you. No matter what it is, if you’re scared, it’s OK to be scared, but what you want to change is how you deal with that fear. Do you tell yourself you’re going to rock it, or do you tell yourself you’re going to look stupid or mess up in some way? It makes a huge difference. Do this even if you’re not feeling quite “normal” yet in your new clothes or jewelry. Kind of like fake it until you make it, right?! Want an instant style confidence boost? Make sure you SMILE!
When you’re starting out don’t go too big or too small. You don’t want to overpower yourself or change your look too much because you want to ease into it. Just small tweaks in your outfits, jewelry and accessories make a bigger impact. If you don’t normally wear big statement pieces, don’t go right from your delicate fine jewelry pieces, straight to the huge faux jewels. Gradually ease into something larger as you try new things and it will feel more natural over time.
Finally, when you’re wearing a plain colored shirt, always look at how you can add a necklace or add some color if you’re wearing neutral. Always take a look at your outfit after you get dressed and ask, “what do I need?” We get stuck in the rut of neutrals, which are fine if you dress them up a bit! Look for beaded jewelry that has colors that would go well with your black, grey and brown tops. Even all silver or gold jewelry will dress up your plain-colored tops and give them some edge.
I hope these tips can help you when you’re new to the jewelry scene and give you style confidence!
